Eating in Shanghai

John and I went to Shanghai for a couple of days in April 2015.

Shanghai

We did a little sightseeing but we mostly went there to eat.

Shanghai

You know how much I adore Peking Duck, and Xindalu China Kitchen did not disappoint.

Shanghai

It is located on the Lobby Level at Hyatt On The Bund.

We snacked on crispy eel while waiting for our duck to arrive.

Shanghai

Crispy eel is now one of my favorite snacks.

The Peking Duck arrived and was carved table side.

Shanghai

First the crispy skin:

Then the juicy duck meat:

Shanghai

And finally the skin and meat combination.

Shanghai

The Duck was served with thin pancakes, scallions, hoison sauce, melted garlic butter, and sugar.

Shanghai

I highly recommend Xindalu China Kitchen for Peking Duck in Shanghai. Be sure to order the duck when you make your reservation.

For Dim Sum check out Crystal Jade in Xintiandi.

Shanghai

We started with Jasmine Tea:

And ordered about 5 dishes to share.

Our favorites were the pork dumplings:

The steamed dumplings with a flavorful garlic sauce:

Shanghai

And of course, more crispy eel.

A popular Shanghainese restaurant is Jian Guo 328.

Shanghai

We started with the house iced tea which mixes black tea and winter melon teas.

Shanghai

Again we ordered several dishes to share.

Our favorites were the the deep-fried duck leg:

Shanghai

The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was tender and juicy.

Boneless pork strips with diced red onion and scallions:

Shanghai

And Hongshao rou:

Shanghai

A classic pork belly dish with ginger, garlic, chilli peppers, sugar, light and dark soy, and rice wine.

Jian Guo 328 is Shanghainese comfort food at its best!

And every eating adventure needs dessert:

We read about the famous chocolate cake at hoF and had to check it out:

Yes.

You need to check out out, too.

hoF is an inviting dessert lounge serving everything from cake to cocktails.
