The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français
Le Quartier Français is a luxurious 21-room boutique hotel in Franschhoek and home to the award-winning restaurant, The Tasting Room.
Executive Chef Margot Janse and her talented team offer a contemporary African-inspired 8-course tasting menu unlike any other meal I’ve experienced.
Each dish is a surprise and is served with a perfectly-paired wine and a captivating story.
The unique 3 1/2 hour dinner is more than a meal, it is a culinary journey.
There is a tiny part of me that wishes I had taken notes as each dish arrived:
But dining at The Tasting Room is a sensory experience, and we were encouraged to participate by using all of our senses.
I quickly abandoned the thought of note-taking because I wanted to absorb every ounce of the evening.
The Tasting Room is one of The World’s 100 Best Restaurants:
And #3 on 2015 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards.
An evening at The Tasting Room will take you on a sensory trip down memory lane.
Simultaneously, the Chef sends you forward on a unique culinary adventure by going beyond the 5 basic senses.
Another thing that makes The Tasting Room unique is my menu was different from John’s menu.
Essentially our 8-course tasting menu was really a 14-course tasting menu, since some dishes were the same.
I loved being able to bring the menu home with me. If only I could have videoed the whole night and brought home all of the stories as well.
I guess we can’t have it all, but I can return, and you better believe I will!
