Auckland, New Zealand
At the end of May 2011, the four of us went to New Zealand and Tahiti for 16 days.
On Friday night we flew from Orlando to Los Angeles:
Los Angeles to Papeete:
And then landed in Auckland on Sunday morning.
After we checked into The Langham Hotel we went in search of real food.
A person can only handle so much airplane/airport food.
Our meal at the Waterfront Cafe was exactly what we needed.
Chicken Wrap.
Chicken and Brie.
Lamb Burger.
They had a great view, too!
We were all feeling great considering the time change so we went exploring the City of Sails.
This graveyard was near our hotel and we spent about an hour reading all of the tombstones.
I am sure people thought we were crazy.
At sunset, we drove up to Mount Eden or Maungawhau, ‘Hill of the Whau Tree’.
It is the highest volcano on the Auckland isthmus and provides stunning views of the city and the Waitemata Harbour.
For dinner we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and overindulged in some delicious beef at Jervois Steak House and Saloon.
By the time we finished dinner, the time change had caught up with us.
We went to sleep early and flew from Auckland to Queenstown first thing the next morning.
