Cooking Class at Le Gemme di Artemisia

In September 2015 we visited Torri del Benaco, a picturesque village on Lake Garda in Italy.

It was one of the places we visited during our European Delivery trip.

One of the highlights of our time in Torri del Benaco was a cooking class at Le Gemme di Artemisia.

The class was taught by Chef Andrea who has been working in restaurant kitchens since he was 14 years old.

Today he co-owns Le Gemme di Artemisia with Lara, who also manages the restaurant.

Their hillside restaurant is where the cooking class took place.

Our day began with coffee and lemon cake on the terrace.

Once in the kitchen we learned several things about making dough for flatbread, cake, risotto techniques and breaking down fish.

But it was the fresh pasta lesson that we enjoyed the most.

We liked it so much that we bought a pasta machine as soon as we got home.

And after several tries, we even perfected the tortellini fold.

The cooking class ends with lunch out on the terrace so we put the finishing touches on the flatbread:

And then started our meal while Chef Andrea finished the rest of our lunch.

And of course every great meal ends in dessert!

If your travels take you to the Lake Garda area, I highly recommend spending the day with Chef Andrea and Lara.

We had a lot of fun getting to know them and learned several things that we were able to bring home with us.
